Your first round, minute by minute.

Nobody walks in knowing how to do this. Here is exactly what the first forty-five minutes look like, so the only unfamiliar thing left is the bag.

The IRONCLAD training floor: a heavy bag hanging under a shaft of light in a brick-walled gym

The first forty-five minutes

  1. 01

    T–15 MIN

    Arrive early, sign in

Fifteen minutes before the bell. The front desk takes your name, checks the waiver and walks you to a locker. Late arrivals miss the wrap-up and we will not put you on a bag cold.

  2. 02

    T–10 MIN

    Get your hands wrapped

A coach wraps your hands the first time and teaches you the pattern the second time. Loaner gloves are sanitised between every session and come in five sizes.

  3. 03

    T–0

    Take the back row

New members are put on bags 13 to 18 on purpose. You can see the whole floor from there, and a coach is assigned to that row for the full forty-five minutes.

  4. 04

    T+45 MIN

    Cool down, then talk

Guided mobility closes every class. Stay five minutes after and your coach will tell you the one thing to fix before you come back — usually your feet, occasionally your ego.

What to bring

Four things, and one of them is nothing. Everything else that touches your hands is ours and is cleaned between sessions.

  • Training shoes Flat sole. Running shoes roll on lateral movement.
  • A towel Mandatory on the bag floor. We sell them at the desk for $12 if you forget.
  • A water bottle Filtered refill stations on both floors. No single-use bottles on site.
  • Nothing else Wraps, gloves, lock and shower kit are loaned free on a first visit.

Straight answers

I have never thrown a punch. Am I going to be the worst one there?
Probably, for about three weeks. Everyone on that floor started on bag 18 with a coach fixing their stance. The Saturday 10:30 First Round class exists for exactly this — twelve bags, no music over 90dB, and the whole hour is technique at half speed.
Is this contact boxing? Will I get hit?
No. Every regular class is bag and floor work only. Sparring is a separate invite-only Wednesday session that opens to you after roughly six months, a technique assessment and your own headgear.
How fit do I need to be to start?
Fit enough to walk up two flights of stairs. Every round has a scaled option called out loud, and the coach on your row will scale it further without making a scene about it.
I am coming back from an injury.
Tell the front desk at sign-in and tell your coach before the warm-up. We keep a note on your file so every coach sees it. We do not need a doctor’s letter, but we will not let you push through something sharp.
What if I book and cannot make it?
Cancel free in the app up to six hours before the class. Inside six hours the session comes off your pack — the bag was held for you and somebody on the waitlist did not get it.

Pick a bell and turn up.

The Saturday 10:30 First Round class is built for a first visit. If that time does not work, any IRONCLAD 45 will do — tell the desk it is your first and you go on the back row with a coach.
